The much talked about and heavily promoted Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera hit screens a week ago. Directed by Karan Malhotra the film which also featured Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor was expected to open with a bang. However, despite the wide screen count in both the domestic and international markets, the film started off on a less-than-expected note. With mixed reviews and general audience disinterest in the film, the business of Shamshera floundered at the box office.
In the overseas markets as well, Shamshera which was released across 1200 screens has been facing a tough time posting decent collection figures. In fact, the Yash Raj Films venture has managed to draw in just USD 1.63 million [Rs. 13 cr] over its opening week in the international markets. Not surprisingly, the overseas territory of the Middle East has contributed the most with USD 563K coming in from this market alone. Coming in as the second and third highest grossing overseas markets are North America and Europe with USD 532K and USD 161K coming in respectively. As for the rest of the overseas markets, Shamshera saw a further USD 374K coming in.
Currently, Shamshera which has received less than appreciative reviews is all but gone from theatres. However, with the release of Ek Villain Returns ruling the roost this Friday, the business of the Ranbir Kapoor starrer has taken a drastic hit. Going forward, trade opines that the business of Shamshera is unlikely to see much growth.
